Welcome, Jensen!

After 14 hours of labor, we welcomed Jensen into this world at 12:56 am on 5/9/09. He surprised us by being a larger bundle than expected, at 21 inches and 10 lb 5 oz!!! Cailyn was amazing in labor, facing a couple unexpected and very challenging obstacles, but was a warrior 'til the end. She is tired and recovering, but overjoyed to be the proud mother of our 'little man.'

Jensen has been sleeping mostly in his first 24 hours, but he's making progress with feeding and is completely healthy. He very closely resembles Jane at birth, with the exception of the extra rolls of fat on his arms and legs and the added chub in his cheeks.

Dad is also doing well, just trying to be supportive and help as much as possible, all the while taking every chance to introduce Jensen to the thrills of manhood.

Today, Jane was introduced to Jensen for the first time. Jane already makes a crying sound whenever we see a baby, she sees a picture of a baby, or we ask her, "What does a baby say?" So upon entering the hospital room, she spied "Jens" (pronounced 'Jence') right away and started making her crying noise. She got to point out his head, hair, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, fingers and toes, and just couldn't keep her hands off of him. Later, as she was sitting on the bed while Auntie Kari was hold Jensen just beside the bed, Jane leaned over repeatedly to kiss Jensen gently on the head, and then sit back, clap her hands together, and smile with joy. Later, Cailyn got to hold Jane and Jens together, and they behaved like they've been brother and sister for years. Jane tried to tickle Jens and then would shrink back laughing. Later, she pulled Jens shirt down off his shoulder, and put her head down on his shoulder.

We are so thankful for a healthy baby, and a quickly bonding family! You all have been amazing in your encouragement, support, and enthusiasm, AND PRAYERS! Thank you so much! We are excited to keep you updated on Jensen's progress!
